Yuan Sheng Yun Xue Da Cheng is an important rhyme book written during Wonli period of Ming Dynasty, which reflects Wtt dialect features. Some pre- decessors have made some commentary remarks covering it, but they have never made a thorough study. Based on the whole grasp to its back ground, the au- thor?a life, the course of writing and the system of initials and thymes and tones, this dissertation emphatically studies the features of Wtz dialect reflected in the book, by horizontal and vertical comparisons and contacting to the con-temporary rhyme documents and present sound. From the early till the middle period of Ming Dynasty, phonologists are trying their bests to deal with actual language despite the meagreness of rhyme books, but at the same time, cannot evade the influence of the earlier rhyme hooks. Henceforth, phonologists during Wanli period continually held high the banner of innovation and had created many rhyme books reflecting the language reality. 1/un Xue Dez Cheng(1578) deserves to be called a pioneer so it has significant value in phonetic history. This dissertation consists of three parts: Part One: Pu Yanglai and the Historical Events about Yzm Xue Diz Cheng. The author of Yun Xue Da Che,ig Pu Yanglai has exceptional talent in phonetics from his childhood, but his official career is fraught with difficulties and dangers so that Pu Yanglai has to journey north and south for several decades, which affords him an opportunity to familarize the mandarin and the dialects of north and south, ana makes him capable of creating Yun Xue Da Cheng. Influenced by the rhyme circle, Pu Yanglai persues a 搉ortational sound?system that can be applied both in north and south areas, however the so ?called ortational sounds present in phonologists?mind only. Yun Xue Da Cheng is a rhyme book of eng Yun?compiled by Yun Tn. Its style can be summarized as followes: It is guided by the rhyme classes and arranged according to the initials taking account of Kai He Xi Hong; The words of Ping tone are the representations of the syllables; Ping, Shang, Qu and Ru tones are passed on from one to another; The words are layed out by Sheng Fit? s sequences; The meanings of words are annotated fully; and variant pronun- ciations are listed. Part Two: The Relationship Between Yun Xue Da Cheng and Wv Dialect of Ming Dynasty First of all, this part analyses the necessity of Pit Yanglai?a consulting Wu dialect while writing the book according to the governed history of Guangde County and the conditions of dialect in ancient time and the present days. People lived in Guangde County spoke Wv dialect from ancient times, which has been kept in remote mountains. Nowadays, most of the people speak mandarin because of the Tai Ping Tian Guo War and the large pestilence. Then this pad analyses the nature of this book from two angles. Firstly, side, compared with S/wag Yun Hid Tong and Zi Xue Ji Yao, Yw& Xue Wi C/wag is conservative on reflecting Wu dialect, which has direct affinities with Pu Yanglai?sortational?idea. And under the direction of this idea, Pu Yanglai unconsciously bases the rhyme book on Wu dialect because of its ancient pho- netic features. And he consults ancient rhyme books and mandarin as well. So inevitably, Yun Xue Da Cheng possesses a somewhat complexity. On the other side, it is possible to find out its complexity from the component point of view. Based on the above analysis, Km Xue Da C/wag may be...
