Pearl S. Buck won the Nobel Prize in literature for the Gold Earth and other books that depicted the Chinese subject matter, which was a cultural phenomenon deserving further study. The paper in brief reviews the history of the attitude to her works in the recent 70 years, and sets up a study point in the history frame. That is to say, the paper expounds the rich thoughts in her early writing from the angle of understanding the Chinese social personality. The paper analyses the text pains-takingly, shows the strong criticism to the feudal culture dross, and points out that Eulogizing, Criticizing and Building are the subject elements of Pearl S. Buck's works. Her writing artistically shows her distinctive imagination to the development of Chinese society. The paper proposes evaluating Pearl S. Buck reasonably and giving her position in the history of literature.
