In this novel, Malamud calls for the moral return of humanity. The author focuses on the spirit and moral. Being a real Jew symbolizes the return of humanity. The characters in Malamud抯 novels often suffer for some purpose or for their sins.The theme 揳ll men are Jews?possesses positive meaning in modern society, i.e., in moral field, human being抯 future is bright, All men can find their way by self-redemption in the helpless Western world.
