Sexism, a study on the gender/sex of language, has been carried on after the discovery of linguistic asymmetry, theoretically based on Sapir-Whorf hypothesis. The thesis, endebted a lot to previous research, is a personal study on the exposition, development and change of sexism, such as the social, cultural and psychological reasons, according to the relevant theory of linguistics from the angles of language & society, language & culture, etc. Methods such as comparison, statistics, induction & deduction, description & explanation, synchronic and diachronic approaches are employed to obtain the results. The semantic, lexical, and syntactical features of sexism are shown in this paper, and the future of sexism is also predicted. Throughout this thesis, a large number of concrete and illustrative examples are included to show the viewpoints more scientifically and logically. |
