The idea of Islamic holy war (jihad) has been of long standing. As a combination of religious ideology and practice of Islam, jihad has been maintenancing its driving and perdurable energy in the course of Islamic history which has lasted for 14 centuries. Jihad came of the warm work between Islam and polytheism when Muhammad united the Arabian Peninsula, and was a inevitable result of the profound transform of the Arabian social structure in the given times. It is emphasizing the religious meaning of force that is the social essential of jihad and it is to create the ideal human' s order by force that is the tenet and ultimate aim of jihad which by its nature is interested in Islamic universalism. The basal characteristic of the contemporary jihad is its radicalism that is a kind of abstract epitome from both radical ideology and radical action. This characteristic in practice lies in four aspects: pan-logistic in jihad, extremism in jihad, practicality in jihad and stressing violent offense in jihad. These aspects show themselves a new look comparing to the classic especially Muhammad age' s jihad. Though the rising of the contemporary Islamic fundamentalism movements can be understood in some sense due to the complicated reality they happened to, their destructive acts of violence are strongly condemned by both most westerns and Muslims and are regarded as a version of terrorism by the west. For most Muslims, the contemporary holy war in the name of Allah has betrayed the pure doctrine of jihad and the peaceful spirit of Islam. This situation will continue throughout the Middle East region even the world in the future.
