Language is the most important means of communication. It is safe to say that Speech Communication came into being together with human society due to the needs of human's surviving and developing. At the same time,Speech Communication plays a very important role in human society's coming-into-being,maintaining. With the development of society and advancement of science and technology,Speech Communication will be more and more important in satisfying our needs on higher level.Communication through language is our basic ability for living. At the same time,it is a kind of social activity. In this dissertation,I clarify my point of view, according to Speech Act Theory and other relative linguistic theories,on how to achieve successful speech communication,i.e. how to have the'iistener to get the speaker's original meaning. As we all know that Searle made a great contribution to the development of Austin's famous Speech Act Theory, and from this theory and Grice's Conversational Implicature,we could surely find the way of communication. In fact, not only the Polite Principle, but also Security Principle,Humour Principle, and so on help to modify our communication with language. I classify them together as Tact Theory. If we can say that Grice's theory helps us to communicate properly with just enough amount of information,Tact Theory can explain why people often offend it's maxims and still get very good communication effect. The purpose of this dissertation is to expound communication theories and principles so as to give people some suggestions on how to use language successfully. I hope that it could be a little helpful in linguistic development and in our everyday life.
