Today it is popular to carry out the research of literature and art from the perspective of culture. This article is devoted to the question of what on earth art is from the standpoint of nature and ecology. Hegel observed that culture has a force and that people' s willpower is always in motion. This motion is the very demonstration of "cultural force" . We will first focus our attention on the force of culture irrespective of Hegel's idealism. In the process of world history, those countries with long history and profound civilizations develop much more slowly compared with some countries with shorter history. America is a typical representative whose development even surpasses the Great Britain, from which America can date back its origin. Western scholars, through attentive analysis, ascribe such strange phenomenon to the system of cultural value. Turning back to our own history, we can easily find that through the Opium War Chinese people were awakened to notice the hindrance caused by the out-of-date traditional Chinese culture. As a result people began to call for innovation and reform. The May 4th movement is one of the important milestones which indicate that China began to step on the road to modern civilization. In the late twentieth century, China carried out the policy of reform and opening to the outside world and achieved a lot in almost every aspect. In short, all of these achievements are in essence realized through the innovation of culture.Based on all the facts mentioned before, we can safely conclude that cultural force does exist and become a strong impetus to thedevelopment of society. Because the implement of cultural force should be based on human efforts, it is in effect the very performance of human power. Only combined with human beings, can cultural force make its full play. Now it is conspicuous that culture does have force. Art, one of the factors of culture, therefore has its distinct force too.Force should have its constituents: target, direction and size. But how should we understand these three components of cultural force? The target of cultural force is its recipient: human being. Direction and size should be considered in combination. Direction has the function of guiding the force to specific places. It can disclose the purpose of the cultural force and therefore is much more essential that the other two.Art and culture should concern about the existence of human being, that is to say, cultural force should be in harmony with human existence. Here a question springs up, that is, how do people live. It is convenient to find in not only literary works, but daily life that people have the desire to live in an ecological surroundings, which implies that people may have been living in non-ecological environment. Today many people think that it is science and technology that destroy our environment and science and technology should be responsible for the deterioration of environment. In my paper I focused on the positive and negative effect of science and technology. I think that there is nothing wrong with science and technology themselves. What is wrong is the way to employ them, that is, we make science and technology slave of our private interests. The way to release us from this embarrassment and solve the problem thoroughly is to remould people' s way of thinking. Can the forceof culture and art be employed and to which degree can it be used to improve our living conditions? As we know that cultural force can make its full play only if it is combined with its direction. So the definition of direction of cultural force is the key factor to this problem. In my paper I turned to the sages and psychologists to illustrate the rationality of "ecological habitation" and the effectiveness of direction.Human being is the target of cultural force, the laborers of productive forces and also the producers of tools. Through exerting influence upon human being, cultural force can extend its power and guarantee that we can obtain an ecological environment. The care o...
