Pinyin Irrelevant Speech Effect | | Posted on:2004-02-16 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:L L Shang | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2205360095457800 | Subject:Basic Psychology | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | Use Chinese spelling characters as experimental material to study the applicability of the two comparatively more influencing theories about irrelevant speech effect at present time, namely, changing state hypothesis of object-oriented episodic record model and similar phonemes interference hypothesis of working memory model, and the mechanism of irrelevant speech effect. Experiment 1 used the study paradigm of Jones etc (1995) to test changing state hypothesis and similar phonemes interference hypothesis. The disruption by background sound is imposed at both encoding and rehearsal periods. Experiment 1 failed replicating the experimental result of Jones etc (1995). Experiment 2 still used the study paradigm of Jones etc 1995), while the disruption position was changed as rehearsal period, to test changing state hypothesis and similar phonemes interference hypothesis. Experiment 2 didn't produce the predictive result either. The disruption patterns produced in Experiment 1 and Experiment 2 are similar. The conclusion drawn from the joint analysis of Experiment 1 and Experiment 2 is that: changing state hypothesis isn't suitable for Chinese spelling characters experimental material, maybe only suit English experimental material and can't be universally applied to other language except English; Similar phonemes interference hypothesis of working memory model is suitable for the Chinese spelling characters in Experiment lA(the same as Experiment 2A), can also properly explain the reason why the disruption trend is that the disruption produced by visual material containing similarphonemes is bigger than that produced by visual material containing dissimilar phonemes, while doesn't suit the Chinese spelling characters in Experiment lB(the same as Experiment 2B), similar phonemes interference hypothesis of working memory model can't be universally used to other experiment material except that in Experiment lA(the same as Experiment 2A); The irrelevant speech effect of Chinese spelling characters may have its own special processing mechanism. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Chinese spelling characters, irrelevant speech effect, changing state hypothesis, similar phonemes interference hypothesis, working memory | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
