Now there is a specious argument in the academic circles,which is about the developing trace and reasons of Yang Kuei Fei' s image in the traditional operas. I have made a systematic study about her image and got my humble opinion.In section One,there is mainly about her image developing with the times in the traditional operas. The clue is the opera history of Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. In order to make the developing trace of her image clear in the traditional operas,I analyze her difference image in different periods and opera works.In section Two, there is Yang Kuei Fei in The Palace of Eternal Youth.Her image in this opera is the most successful in her image' s history.That' s why I choose this one to make deeper analysis. This one was developing from the image in other earlier operas. I make comparisions between her image and other two female image, which one is Chinese, the other is foreign. From these comparisions we can learn the particularity of her image.Then I think we should treat her image dialectically.In section Three, I probe into the deep reasons why Yang Kuei Fei' s image can develop and change,such as her own charm, the writers' experiences and different spiritual sustenance in the writings, the influence of developing times and social ideological trend, the various literary forms, the different records and legends and so on.The image of Yang Kuei Fei in the traditional operas project the writers' thought, the public psychology andsocial development. Her developing trace reflects the changes of female position in feudalistic society. We also can see the changes of social psychology and the public's value orientation.In the other hand,the special fascination of her image can arouse our chord and satisfy our aesthetic needs. Therefore,her image is still active on the stage and alive in our hearts so far.
