In Tang Dynasty, the criterion of social judgement was greatly influenced by the balancing of power system , the factors of family status and poetry , while the engagement of medicine has no status at all. What the judgement on the one who are dedicated to medicine depended on whether he has power or not. The reason for Liu to engage in medicine was that he was not so strong when he was young. Furthermore ,the aesthetic culture also forced him to jump into the pharmacology in order to get a strong body, The choice embodied his firm volition and sensitive mind . And later the reputation of works and poets could be traced back to this. When he was frustrated in government and sent to exile in the South , he then take the medicine for hygiene. The reason why he was outside of the harm of the chemical prescription perhaps is this.
