ChiLi's Annoying Life caught much attention when it was published in 1987. Ever since then, she has maintained vigor in writing. Between the late 1980s and the early 1990s, the successive appearance of her Life Trilogy brought her great fame. In the mid-1990s, her works were converted into a new style. During this period, she published such works as Come And Go, Hello, Miss, Point That The Cloud Breaks and The Works That Surprise The World, Which brought about beneficial market result as well as the praise from the readers. Meanwhile, her works were made into TV plays and movies one after another, and soon, ChiLi's name became a household word across the country. However, the literary world took a cautious and calm attitude toward ever-growing "ChiLi Craze". Obviously, critics and ordinary readers diverged greatly in the taste of the works?As the divergence grew, it became a thought - provoking " ChiLi Phenomenon" .This paper tries to analyze the reasons that have formed this phenomenon from 5 aspects and discusses the inspiration we may gain from this phenomenon. The First Chapter , Change With The Time, tries to analyze her search for the new and the change in the content as well as in the style, this appeals to readers and calls their attention. As a result, they are expecting find something new in her books before they read them. The Second Chapter, To Be With The Ordinary People; To Accept Common Things, talks about her works from the stand of the ordinary people and their way of evaluating objects. For this reason, ChiLi's works are accepted and appreciated. The Third Chapter, Send Me Onto The Clouds ByMeans Of Strong Wind, discusses her works from the commercialism and the propaganda of mass media. On account of public opinions, a succession of TV plays and films that are made from her works brought her great popularity with the ordinary people, thus further helping her works become best sellers. The Fourth Chapter, Both Defects And Merits, point out the weak points in her works, which lay too much emphases on common life and lack the critical sense that intellectuals should posses. Because of this , she was criticized. The Fifth Chapter, The Revelation ChiLi Phenomenon Gives Us, points out that, in market economy, the production and sale of literary works are controlled by market law, how authors probe a new way between refined works and vulgar works.
