| Because of its connection with other research, the research of "Tongjia" has been noticed for a long time; due to its complex meaning and uncertain range, it is always the problem to Chinese language study."Tongjia" means using a word to substitute for another word, which has the same or similar pronunciation. Research of it occurred early in our history, but it was not scientic and systematic until the Qing dynasty. Thanks to the establishment of ancient sound, people overcomed the fret of character form, beginning to look into linguistic questions in a view of sound. Wang Niansun is one of the prominent. His work-Gang YaShuZheng contains all his linguistic ideas and all his linguistic study. It was much praised. In this thesis, in a view of wide Tongjia, we try to analyze and explain his research of Tongjia occurring in the book of WenXuan. On the basis of the material gathered, we try to do this from the following respects: first, his theory and method; second, the jargon he used to explain Tognjia; third, classification of Tongjia."Searching for the meaning of the words' by their pronunciation, not to be restricted to their character form" is his main method. He deeply realized that sound is the essence of language; character is nothing but a system to record language. He is able to get rid of the restraint of character form and study Tongjia by means of sound. As a result, he can get the correct meaning of ancient language and say something unprecedently. In addition, he absorbed the character form's right effect on sound and make use of it while looking into Tongjia. The jargon he used are mainly as following: "Tong" "equal" "different characters but of the same meaning "similar pronunciation and of the same meaning" and "or" so on. Among them, "Tong" is the most frequently used, and it contains several different ways of expressing. But, what we should pay attention to is that instead of accurately and scientificly, he used the jargon casually. For example, "Tong" is also used to explain words which have different ways of writing. But theoccurrence of such a phenomenon is easy to explain, we can't blame it on Wang completely. As we known, the key to Tongjia is the same or similar pronunciation. During the explaining process, he strictly keep to this key; in light of the ancient sound, we sort them out into three class. Besides, we should take notice of the character form while studying Tongjia by their sound. So, on the condition that they the same or similar pronunciation, we classify them into three kinds according to their character form, once again. In addition to Tongjia, this book is widely involved in "Borrowing" and words which have different style of writing occurring in WenXuan. So, as a complement, we also give these two kinds of linguistic phenomenon a simple explaination and analysis. "Borrowing" mainly contains the following three types of words: "Lianmian "names of the things" and words which are composed of the same two characters. As for the words which have different ways of writing, they can be classified into five sorts, according to the cause of their existence.Of course, as an "immortal works", GuangYaShuZheng's content is as profound as possible. As to WenXuan alone, it also concerned with comparing and identifying the right and wrong words; explaining the meaning of many particular and ordinary words. Together with his linguistic ideas embodied the book, all these deserves our careful studying, with a view to make more progress in the research of WenXuan. Due to the limited time and my inadequate ability, in this thesis, we just talk about his research of Tongjia related to WenXuan. As for the others, I'll try my best to complete them in the future. |
