"Horizon of expectations" theory is the cornerstone of Reception Aesthetics. From the perspective of the interior structure and group similarities and differences, the author of this thesis further studies "horizon of expectations" theory and analyzes its significance on literature history studies. This thesis can be divided into two main parts.Part One: an exploration of "horizon of expectation" theory.Chapter One: judging from the interior structure of "horizon of expectations" theory, its connotations can be divided into directional and innovative expectations. Directional expectations outline the basic trend for literature reception, while innovative expectations are more interior and profound. The internal unification of them reveals the values of literary works.Chapter Two: collective expectations are the combination and abstraction of individual expectations. In view of the differences of text reception, collective expectations can be categorized into elite expectations and mass expectations. On the one hand, elite expectations and mass expectations are contradictory. On the other hand, they have the potential to dialogize.Part Two: "horizon of expectations" theory and literature history studies.Chapter One: The author applies "horizon of expectations" theory into the analysis of the timeliness of literature history and the mainstream and non-mainstream phenomenon in literature history studies.Chapter Two: It is a new perspective to apply "horizon of expectations" theory into literature history studies. Thus, on the one hand, it has unprecedented values; on the other hand, it has its unavoidable limitations.
