Exploration Of The Art Songs Of Richard Strauss

Richard Strauss (1864-1949) is one of the most prominent German and Austrian Lied composers in the late Romantic age. He composed over 200 pieces of lieder, which occupied a significant position in all his musical works. In this thesis, R.Strauss's life experices is presented and the styles in his early, middle, and late periods of lieder's composing are expounded. Additionally, 13 pieces of lieder, which are the most typical in his different stages, are taken as examples to analyse the composing background, the lyrics translation, the musical body, and the singing charateristics. Through these analyses, R ?Strauss's contribution to German and Austrian lieder, and the lieder's value in vocal teaching and singing are objectively estimated.There are the Chinese titles of all R ?Strauss's songs in Appendix 1, and the Chinese words of 15 pieces of songs, which are the most prevailing ones among his numerous, in Appendix 2. All these are for readers' reference in order to understand the song words accurately.
