Alice Walker is an outstanding Afro-American woman writer who is called the defender of the black race and black women. Countering the reality that suffers of racial discrimination and sexual discrimination to black women, she is working hard for Survival Whole throughout her life and made persistent efforts for this. The paper mainly analyzes the process of Walker's search for Survival Whole, the value and meaning of her creation from the following respects. The introduction gives a survey of Walker's literary creation including her literature status, main works, varied emphasis in different periods, and her special contribution to American literature. Part One, The Complex of Black and Anxiety of Identity. It analyzes Walker's experience of life, feeling of existence and literary ideal, tracing back to and probing into the connotation and cause of formation of the complex of black and anxiety of identity. Walker's miserable life experience and political experience of joining in civil rights movement in her early years are mixed with the suffering experience of Afro-American and the struggling experience to obtain conscious identity through the history. All the experience converges into one psychological accumulation and deposits in her sub-consciousness, and then shapes the complex of black and anxiety of identity, and at the same time becomes the basic motivation for her literary creation. Part Two, Analysis of the Relation between Feeling of Black People and Literature of the Anxiety of Identity. Explore the way of Walker's writing by analyzing her concrete works. Walker leads her own anxious mood off through her creation, as well as seeks the way of Survival Whole for the black race. Section one, American southern community's mirror image: the twisted soul and family's violence under racial discrimination. For example, Walker's first novel The Third life of Grange Copeland , it discusses deeply about the relation among the slavery, the racial discrimination and the twisted soul of black people, the social origin and psychological factor of black men's tendency to sexual violence. Section two, different women at three stages: looking for the track of Survival Whole. Through tracing back to woman protagonists'development of image in Walker's works, it combs out the track of looking for Survival Whole at different stages, and show the pilgrim's process that Walker herself as a black woman gradually emancipates the mind and move to maturity. Part Three, Womanism: Seek the Harmonious Sex expressions Intelligently of Men and Women. Using The Third life of Grange Copeland and The Color Purple as examples to analyze the essence of Walker's spirit exploration, literature ideal and life goal. Walker proposes womanism in order to "dedicates oneself to and realizes all people, including the man and woman, survive with the perfect doctrine."Therefore, Walker's women liberation idea is not narrow because she realizes the black woman is not only a black person, a woman even more, is the human being. Women liberation also means the liberation of men's thought and even liberation for the whole mankind. Although the theory is still under warm discussion, it has already won more and more acknowledgement and support at present in America society. Conclusion, the Black Subject. Take Walker as example to summarize the value and meaning of black women's writing. Section one, summary of women's writing and consciousness of black people. In creation, Walker combines closely the process of the pursuit for ego of black women with the exploration for consciousness of black people, trying to revise historical memory through literary discourse, seeking for the root of lost culture, and curing the emotional trauma of the black people. Section two, came into mother's garden and stepped into open future. Black women writers inherit the tradition of telling stories from their mothers consciously, and finish revising the old power system and culture administration pattern in the form of ethnic writing, so as to strive for the right that speaks of the ethnic culture for...
