Poet Fang Hongjing Research,

Fang Hongjing was famous as a great poet of Hui state, who was active during the years of JiaJing and WanLi in Ming Dynasty. He made great achievements in many fields such as poem writing and poetic theory. Because of his special status as governal official and locally poetic writing leader, he greatly promoted the development of literature and literary club of Hui state in his times.Fang Hongjing was born in a family of merchant in Hui state. In his childhood, he was fond of writing poem and famous for writing poem. He was listed in the official member in 1550 and promoted to be vice minister in charge of agriculture in Nanjing at last. He died at the age 95, and spent about eighty year on poetic writing. There're nearly one thousand poems in the poetic collection named writing in the Plain Park. His writings include many aspects. When he was young, his writings were mainly about the great ambition that wanted to devote himself to the nations. When he was a official, the writings were mainly about the suffering of the low people, derided the luxry life of the ruler and showed the unsatisfaction toward his situation. When he returned to the hometown at his old age, his writings were mainly about the glorious landscape of Hui state. The style of poems was fresh and plain. Generally, Fang Hongjing made use of poem to widely reflect the societal reality of JiaJing and Wanli period and the beautiful landscape of the country.In addtion to the writing, Fang Hongjing also made better achievements in field of poetic theory. When returning to the old style in term of poetic writing rose up again during his times, he offered the good method to study poem. And writingshould adopt the material widely and not limited in Tang Dynasty. Through his own writing experience, he put forward some opinions aiming at the disadvantage of plagiary in poetic writing. That is to say, the poet should concentrate on poetic style and poetic theory. His theory played an important role in the development of poetic writing, especially in Hui state.This thesis chooses Fang Hongjing to study in order to make us wholly grasp the unique historical culture background of Hui state through studying his family and life. Also we can further know about the literary development of his period, especially the literary development in Hui state, through studying his poetic theory and writing.
