As known to all, Chinese classical literature has a close relation with music. This relation starts from the primitive period and lasts more than two thousand years. Nearly all typical Chinese classical literary forms like The Book of Songs, The Songs of the South, Poetry by the Music Bureau of Han Dynasty, Song Poetry and Yuan Drama have same source with music. The two, as Chinese traditions, contribute to and benefit from each other.It is this special relation between Chinese classical literature and music that urges us to find out the intrinsic law in their same source by investigating their historical roots and development. This will be of great importance for us to comprehend each of them and both as a whole.This thesis selects main Chinese classical literary forms—The Book of Songs, The Songs of the South, Poetry by the Music Bureau of Han Dynasty, Song Poetry and Yuan Drama —and compares them with music development in corresponding historical period. Through this, the dominant role of music to literary is elucidated.
