The essay attempts to explore the creative spirit and style of Xiao Hong's novel from the perspective of female consciousness. It can be divided into three parts.Chapter one: It analyses the historical and personal background of the formation of Xiao Hong's female consciousness. In the long process of feudal society, forfeiting the subjective gender position, females were put back to the backstage of history without their own consciousness and power. What's more, females were in the dominated and enslaved position deprived of the freedom of speech in which they should have enjoyed the equal right with the males. Till the late of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, with enhance of the educational level, increasing chances of social participation and maintenance of economic independence, more and more women reemerged in the literature stage. Among them, Xiao Hong was another novelist owning keen and clear-cut standpoint of female consciousness after the group of female novelists in May 4th which was the highlight of female consciousness.Chapter two: It discusses the female consciousness Xiao Hong possessed in her novel creativity. Though Xiao Hong established herself for the theme of anti-emperor, we found that the concern of the female fate run through all her novels. From the angle of the female, she focused on the low layer of women labors who were deeply depressed, insulted and damaged. In her novels, she described the animal-like survival state and deadened mind of the female, disclosed their tragic suffering from nation and individuals, revealed the origin of the cause of their misfortune and expressed her idea about the exploration of the female liberation.Chapter three: IT elaborates the creative characteristics of Xiao Hong. With intense female consciousness, she showed her own striking features in choosing the materials and in employing the stylistic language.
