This is a monograph on an historical study of calligraphy, in an attempt to find out about the artist and also to discover how we can learn from the Oracle-bone script style in this, the 20th century. We parsed the history through the process of the understanding of the Oracle-bone script style, to studying the calligraphy works created by the artist at that time.We considered that there were two epochs in the whole course of this practice. The different ways of viewing the original Oracle-bone script made for differing results.The first epoch established Unit one of this paper; the focus artist is Luo Zhenyu (Chapter one) and Dong Zuobin (Chapter Two). The monograph 'Models collected from Oracle bone script characters in Yinshang for couplet' published in 1921, proclaimed the beginning of a study into the style of Oracle bone script. Luo Zhenyu has gained considerable expertise on this area. He has also gained a great reputation and renown from collecting the Oracle bone script characters and the art works that the artist made. He has many pupils and adherents; Luo's work have had a great impact on his followers.Dong Zuobin's major is archaeology; he also studied and made a scholarly interpretation of ancient written documents, especially on paleography and hieroglyphics. He was a scholar with a modern way of thinking for he was skilled in putting new ways into his study. He gained many great achievements in the area of Oracle bone script study. He called on how the artist must have treated the original Oracle bone script text as a model, and he made a success of this and his work has been of great significance.Some other artists whose chronological age was close to that of Luo and Dong (such as Ye Yusen, Ding Ren, Ding Fuzhi and Jian Jinglun) have also written in this mode. Rong Geng, Shang Chengzuo ang Guo Muoruo make up Chapter Three.Unit two analyses the second epoch. Some new styles occurred in the area of the study of Oracle bone script style.Hu Xiaoshi, Pan Tianshou and Lu Weizhao are the masters during this period; all were famous calligraphers and painters. They gave us new ways of looking at the Oracle bone script, and treated the text as mainly a specialised style of art, and not just as hieroglyphics.
