Shi Guangnan is the outstanding son of Chinese people and people's musician. During the decade around the smash of "the gang of four", his exerted his utmost effort to compose musical works so as to voice the aspirations of Chinese people. His vocal works are particularly fastened to the pulse of time, and sings the praises of another grand period of Chinese rebirth. Uniquely, as the representative of a particular period in the development of contemporary Chinese songs, Shi Guangnan's vocal works embrace intense time characteristic, embody time spirit and reflect people's common wish and aspiration.Taking the particular time both in the history of Chinese society and in the development of modern Chinese songs, this article makes research on the characteristics of the time, which are presented in Shi Guangnan's representative vocal works created at that time, and how he achieves the unification of artistic value and social and historical value.Meanwhile, owing to her own research direction, the author pays full attention to why Shi Guangnan's vocal works could be passed on generation by generation. The reason is inseparable from the vocal performers' accurate grasp and interpretation of the works, through which works are given musical life and emotion, and creating value realized. Research on the time characteristics of Shi Guangnan's vocal works is of great significance of guidance, for only through the accurate grasp of time characteristics of Shi Guangnan's vocal works could we truly understand and realize the composer's real intention, therefore, feel and comprehend the connotation of the works, and make proper artistic creation to Shi Guangnan's vocal works.
