Tender Is the Night, the last finished novel by American writer F. Scott Fitzgerald, is also his only novel in the 1930s. On the basis of the two different editions of the novel once published, the dissertation makes a study of arts, ideas, and ways of expression in Tender Is the Night. The dissertation is divided into five chapters. The first two chapters, from their writing background as well as literary criticism they created, which had had great effect on Fitzgerald, introduce the two different editions of the novel. After showing the writing background of Fitzgerald's literature works, and the history of his four finished novels, the third chapter reveals the meaning and the character of his forth novel. And last two chapters focus on the commons and differences of the two editions respectively.According to these five chapters, the dissertation concludes that the 1951's actually is the first step that Fitzgerald took when he wanted to solve the problems the 1934's had brought. And that step is important to the research of both F. Scott Fitzgerald's literature ideas and his style from late 1920s to 1930s.
