The present paper studied the efficient Chinese readers and inefficient Chinesereaders from second year junior high school and tried to find the differece between theefficient Chinese readers and inefficient Chinese readers.The study included two parts. In part one, Chinese reading tests were used tomeasure the comprehensive reading, critical reading and applied reading. Thecomprehensive reading included the microcomprehension, marcocomprehension. Themicrocomprehension included word comprehension, sentence comprehension andlocal comprehenion.In part two, eye tracker was used to study the eye movement characteristics ofefficient and inefficient Chinese readers while they were reading four passages withdifferent difficult levels. The fixations, fixation time, saccade length and pupildiameters were used as dependent variables. The real time monitoring of the readingprocess of the good and inefficient readers could reveal the minute differencesbetween them.(1) The efficient readers of the junior high school were better than the inefficientreaders of the junior high school in terms of comprehensive reading, criticalreading and applied reading.(2) There was gender difference in macro comprehension. The males studentswere better than the female students.(3) Both efficient readers and inefficient readers could change their eyemovement patterns when reading the difficult passages.
