As the foundation book of written linguistics, "Shuowen Jiezi" witch was written by Xushen of Later Han Dynasty interpreted words not only through character form, but also through phonation and meaning by the theory of "Liu Shu". Since "Shuowen Jiezi" had been published, people in that time paid attention to it and studied it. But no people discovered the lost and used writing form of Chinese characters after "Shuowen Jiezi". Until Qing Dynasty, Duan Yucai had referred to this evolution in his famous book "Annotation on Shuowen Jiezi". And he had researched the evolution course of Chinese characters. Our studying object of this article is about the lost and used writing form of Chinese characters in Duan Yucai's "Annotation on Shuowen Jiezi". We first statistic the number of this kind of Chinese characters, later find the ways Duan Yucai explained the evolution. Our final goal is to discover the rule of Chinese character writing style evolution durning the 1700 years from Later Han Dynasty to Qing Dynasty, and discuss the reason why Chinese characters can make such change.This article is mainly divided into two major parts: Part one is about the essential information of the lost and used writing form of Chinese characters in Duan Yucai's "Annotation on Shuowen Jiezi", such as the number of entries, the form of explaining, the way of corresponding, and the analysis by "Liu Shu". We try to demonstrate the fact of Chinese character writing style evolution. Part two is to discussion the theories of the lost and used writing form of Chinese characters in Duan Yucai's "Annotation on Shuowen Jiezi". We analyze and sum up different stratification material, try to find out the Chinese character evolution tendency and influence factor. We comprehensively unfold the theory significance and the practice of the Chinese character evolution in Duan Yucai's "Annotation on Shuowen Jiezi".
