"three Kingdoms" Pei Note Adverbs Study

The study of the history of Chinese must be based on the detailed and reliable grammatical research of a special book. San Guo Zhi Pei Zhu (the following shorter form Pei Zhu)is a book written by Pei Songzhi of the Southern Dynasties Song. In this book he did notes of the San Guo Zhi . The language in this book is reliable and is much similar to the spoken language at that time. Therefore, Pei Zhu is quite useful to our research on the Middle Ages Chinese language.Since continuously, academic circles pay most attention to the annotation and glossary explanations of words in the research on Pei Zhu. But the research is short in the study of function words. This article mainly studys the adverbs in Pei Zhu.The whole book is divided into four chapters except for the preface.Chapter one: Summarize.This chapter mainly introduces the language material choice of Pei Zhu, the definition of adverb, the difference between adverb and the other parts of speech . Also, we introduce the classification of adverbs here. All of these can indicate our fundamental view.Chapter two: Adverb general picture depicts of Pei Zhu.In the chapter, we make an overall systemic description and classification of adverbs on Pei Zhu, trying to draw the outline of basic aspect of it. There are five hundred and eighty eight adverbs in Pei Zhu, which are divided into eight categories, such as adverb of time, adverb of scope, adverb of degree, modal adverb, mood adverb, negative adverb, link adverb and adverb of indicating and substituting.Chapter three: Adverb general picture analyses of Pei Zhu.In this chapter we make comparatively detailed analyse on monosyllable adverb, double syllable adverb and adverb suffix "Zi"(自) and "Fu"(复) which emerged in the Middle Ages in Pei Zhu. We study the problem mainly in lasted and altogether angel.Chapter four: The case analyses.In the chapter, we select three adverbs-"Suishi"(随时) "Fenbie" (分别), "Ku" (酷) in Pei Zhu to do case study, trying to analyze the process and causation of their grammaticalization.
