Yosimotobanana is a famous woman writer in Japan. She is evaluated together with Murakamiharuki as the king and queen of Japanese literary world. In the writer's opinion, we can find the tradition of Japanese literature in her modern works. At the same time, the modernity of her works has caught the citizens' heart in the modern cities. Thus, compared with Murasakisikibu and her Genjimonogatari, the writer wants to analyze the modernity and also the Japanese literature's tradition of her works. In preface, the writer introduces the study and evaluation on her and her works from domestic researchers as well as overseas until now.In chapter one, the writer focuses on the comparison between her works and Genjimonogatari, and proves that Yosimotobanana's works do have inherited the tradition of Japanese literature - "mononoaware" from her description of environment, plant and the use of colors. In the second part of this chapter, the writer demonstrates another tradition - "strange theme" from two aspects. In chapter two, the writer mostly introduces the times background and the life experience of the both woman writers. On this basis, a conclusion to the similarities and differences of the two women writers in emotive aspects and family background is given. In third chapter, the writer focuses on the analysis the modernity of the works from the two aspects—the new female images of the female figures in the work and the male images. And in the third part, the writer points out where the modernism in Yosimotobanana's works lie.In the conclusion chapter, the writer summarizes the traditionalism and modernism of Yosimotobanana's works and show the writer's affection and appreciation on her works and my continuous interest in her creation. The writer hopes that this thesis will arouse a broader focus and deeper research on Yosimotobanana.
