Ferenc Liszt, one of those artists who greatly embrace creativeness on the romantic period, a great composer, pianist and music critic in Hungary, it may be said that he is a miracle icon in European history of music in the nineteenth century. His music creation not only pioneers a place with broad prospects, but also dedicates treasure to world cultural treasury. The creative domain of Liszt's is relatively extensive; it not only involves a great amount of piano works and symphony, but also relates to considerable classic art songs. And all these high touch art songs and works fly his own colors in the nineteenth century artistic chanson creation domain, which are of significant artistic value.At the prime of life, Liszt exerts himself to the creation of artistic chanson, and has achieved brilliant achievements. In all, he has composed more than eighty chansons in German, French, English, Italian and Magyar, whose style is utterly different from that of his contemporaries, Schubert, Schumann, brahms, Wolf and other German and Austria composers, i.e. his style is more individual and has characteristics. These art songs and thirteen symphonic poems are just the same as Hungarian Rhapsody, they are gems of romantic music.The art songs of Liszt's has sharp characteristics, and the theme melody, while attach importance to singing character, embraces recital features. And the accompaniment tessitura rarely repeats its theme melody, but manifests that of the second music theme. He takes advantage of the manifestation of the piano accompaniment, makes out band effect, and then makes simple art song more dramatic. With regard to the creation of this genre, the exploration and innovation spirit embodies mainly in harmony domain, and the adoption of colored harmony is the most outstanding aspect in art songs. He spares no effort to bring colored harmony into manifestation in the framework of tonality harmony. Complicated mutation chord, characterized harmony proceeding and varied modulation means, makes the art song full of colored variation, which is of good effect to the word meaning, story and circumstances, deserves to be studied and be used for reference.This thesis takes art songs as the object of research,selects part of representative works, closely surrounds the harmony technique as the theme, natomises structure of musical forms, mode and tonality character and harmony styles in full aspects and profoundly. Meanwhile, the author in virtue of music historiography and music aesthetics and other related theoretical knowledge, adopts comparative methodology, from seperate discussion to generalization, from microcosmic to macrocosmic aspects, exerts to proceed analysis and research from multi-angles. The body of this thesis unfolds the discussion from four aspects:Chapter I. Deeds of Liszt's life and background of art song creation. This chapter deals with all of his life, developmental network and historical, cultural background respectively, puts emphasis on introducing the influence of historical and cultural background.Chapter II. Structure of musical forms and tonality layout of Liszt's art songs. This part selects representative works that have varied structure, with combination of creation background, clarifies logic relation between structure of musical forms and tonality layout, i.e. master the works stretch.Chapter III. The analysis of harmony style of Liszt's art song. This part is the essential chapter of the thesis. Through the thorough analysis of art song, the author sum up six kinds of harmony style: I. complicated chromatic chord; II. featured romantic harmony proceeding; III. the Organic combination continual sound in accompaniment tessitura and interior tone variation; IV. varied modulation means; V. complicated cadence and open harmony layout; VI. the Hungarian style in harmony. This part lists a great amount of classic art songs dribs and drabs fragment, set forth national characterized chord material and harmony proceeding, presents Liszt's colored harmony technique, which is full of creativeness, inquires into harmony significance on theme image model and music thoughts expression.Chapter IV. Liszt's art song features of style and musical aesthetics thoughts. And this part is the induction and generalization of the above grounds of argument. The author would like to offer his humble opinions to elicit more valuable ones, and to evoke more research to Liszt's music creation techniques.
