J.M.Coetzee is one of the most important contemporary novelists in South Africa. As a white novelist who was born in South Africa, he testified to his country processing from colonial government to erecting democracy regime. His especial experience gives much effection on his composition.Disgrace is one of his magnum opuses. Setting on the background of the post-apartheid South Africa, it depicts the social scene, the alteration of power and station, the spirit bewilderment and survival puzzledom which the South Africans faced after the apartheid policy was abolished.Based on the text, this paper tries to combine the post-colonial theories and narratology theories to analyze the post-colonial theme and the narrative strategies of the novel.This paper is divided into five parts. The exordium introduces the author, J.M.Coetzee's life and his composition, the domestic and foreign research on this thesis, the new ideas and the significance of this paper. The first chapter introduces the backgrounds of the novel , its main contents and the author's consideration on the white's future in new South Africa. The second chapter analyses detailedly the post-colonial theme, the multi-level symbolism and the metaphor of the novel. The third chapter analyses mainly the narrative strategies of the novel. The epilogue summarizes the paper and estimates the novel's realism significance to South Africa.
