Chinese Letter Word Norms

Letter words is an important study area of social-linguistics. These days more and more people pay attention to this area. A new situation, which is regarded as the reflection of the study in the practical world, is presenting in the research of letter words as a great number of essays, ancient books and records in this area have been written. As a new linguistic phenomenon, many constitutions in letter words are unstable and many questions need further researches and specification. As a result, a discussion into specification of letter words has become an important issue of linguistics.First of all, this paper gives a general description on specification of letter words and raises new views on the base of former study. As to the name of letter words, we call it "Chinese letter words" from the scientific angel, because a great many letter words are in the form of abbreviation of English phrases. Then we analysis the constitution and features of Chinese letter words and the reasons of its origin and development. We emphasis the important theories and practical significances on the specification research of letter words with great strength.We suggest four major specification principles on the base of the work of the former: principle of dynamic, principle of level, principle of common practice and principle of integration. Under the guide of these principles, we give a detailed explanation on the issue, such as pronunciation, form and use. As to pronounciation, we prefer its English; as to form, we specify capital or minuscule, input and punctuation and point out special cases which don't belong Chinese letter words; as to use, we give solutions to the problem that is to make notes with Chinese words.We believe, it is necessary to guide the specification of Chinese letter words with a reasonable view. Therefore, at the end of this paper we express our attitude on the questions of Chinese letter words appearing in the using and the prospect of the Chinese letter words.
