Hermann Hesse(1877-1962), one of the masters in German literature during 20th century. In 1946, he won the Noble Price of Literature for his excellent works. He was such poet writing his experiment of his own life. Hugo Ball called him as the last knight in the shine of Romanic. For the whole works of Hesse, dreams, images, children and childhood, to be the themes usually appeared in his writing. And these themes set up a fictional world of fairytales in Hesse's works. As the traditional term of fairytale, Anderson was the Perfect Magician of fairytales in world. And for Hesse, fairytale isn't the only textual form, but also the sign for his writing. A world was set up by poetry, magic and elves, and also forms a sense of fairy land. Obviously, Hesse was fond of dreams as he analyzed himself during his whole life. "Does any mature writer in the twentieth century write fairytales?" May only be him. Hesse used the fairy-style into his narrative works, and meant it as the Magic. And Hesse had ever said that his ideal career is a magician before the determination of profession of poetry. Therefore we can treat the Glass Bead Game as a long-length fairytale of Hesse. It is the fiction home of the unbecoming and renegade self. But it should be distinguished from the epic, because Hesse was more solitary. As he once mentioned of Magic Flute in his "Life Story Briefly Told", I like to express my gratitude to W.A.Mozart!...
