English is a compulsory subject to the university students, and also an easily practical and manipulative tool. The teaching aim of college English is to cultivate students' English comprehensive ability, especially listening and speaking ability, but the traditional English class's mode is " teacher speaks, students listen" that can't be suitable for the development of society that urgently needs professional talents who master a foreign language. To change the disadvantage, national educational department issued the outline of college English teaching that confirms college English class should cultivate students' autonomous ability mainly.As a college English teacher, I know about the disadvantage that lots of non-major English students are in not enough English classes. It is impossible for English teachers to improve every student's ability. It is benefit for the freshmen to grasp reasonable studying methods that can be trained by autonomy in a certain phrase.The whole thesis can be divided into five parts, the first part is introduction that expounds the background and situation of autonomy. The second part is researching theory, the theory of "Zone of Proximal Development", Humanism and Constructivism are the educational stone of autonomy. The third part is related to a certain definitions. The forth part is practical research, we know about that the Eastern Liaoning University students' attitudes to English autonomy by questionnaires and talks that makes the English teaching tactics aimly. The last part puts forward English class's teaching tactics from the technical and emotional angle.
