There is much hope and challenges in the 21st century .The high technology and the fierce competition of comprehensive national strength pushes man into the era of knowledge economy and information .The cultivation and education of talents is very important to the country's development and social progress. The common university music education,aiming to upgrade the aesthetic quality in order to fulfil the all-round development of A PERSON, has become an important aspect to the cultivation of the modernization comprehensive talents. The common university music education,greatly stressed by the nation, is accelerating the pace of development.Vocal music is the most natural , most direct form for man to express feelings. It is also a form of art which the college students like and can easily accept. Through the study of vocal music, the students' interest on music can be aroused. It can also help improve their artistic taste. The study of vocal music, aesthetic education, quality education can promote and reinforce each other. Vocal Arts Education can play an unique and irreplaceable role to the development of the college students who are not music majors.In China, the optional course on vocal music has a late atart in colleges. The attendents are varied in their special field of study .The education on music they had received ,because of the difference between the districts, their families,etc, varies a lot. a national teaching outline and guidance kits are still lacking. The number of the articles on the teaching ideology, teaching aim, teaching content and teaching methods are comparatively small, this more or less plays a negative role to the development of college music education .How to find an effective teaching method on vocal music teaching which accords with the knowledge structure and the psychological characteristics of the college stedents majoring not in music,and generalize the practical experience has become a subject for many researchers and teachers on college common vocal music teaching .As a vocal muisic teacher, the author tries a theotetical analysis and practical study in the fields of teaching contents, teaching form and qualities for the teachers on the basis of the teaching theory and teaching practice. This work aims to find an effective teaching method which is suitable tor the vocal music teaching in our country and it is hoped that it can help improve the vocal music teaching in colleges.
