| At the end of 20th century,some new technologies,dominated by computer science, brought immense changes in typography,even in the whole industry of graphic design. Brand new typographical concepts were cultivated and developed in such a circumstance. After about ten years' development,Western typography has reached its maturity.In recent few years,study in typography has spread to the east.Chinese graphic designers and educators have also realized the importance of typography and started to find good approaches in typology.How to leam from Western experience and how to break through the bottleneck of Chinese characters in typography have become an urgent problem to be solved by contemporary designers and educators in typography.In order to solve the problem,it's crucial to find out creation techniques of Western designers,to study and learn from Western forms and approaches of typography,and to apprehend the worldwide fashion of typographic design.There are many ways to study contemporary typological design and this thesis goes on like a kaleidoscope view.By studying lots of successful examples in typographic design from both domestic and abroad,the author has grasped various design methods of contemporary typography,and conducted systematic review and classification of character types.After exploring forms and pattems of the most representative typological designs in these ten years,the author keeps track of typological design development and sums up laws of typological design,which is of great help for designers to grasp features of times, to feel the pulse of design development,to draw lessons from that and to be triggered in inspiration and to promote the development of modern graphic design on the basis the present level.The thesis is presented for the purpose of providing some reference for typographical designers. |
