Analysis Of The Characteristics Of The Musical Vocal Music From "the Phantom Of The Opera" Aria

Being a burgeoning kind of performance,musical comedy becomes popular among music fans in China because of its beautiful melody,attracting plot and choreography.《Phantom of the Opera》—one of the classical music comedies of the Broadway—plays an important role in the history of musical comedy,and many arias of it are performed worldwide.Owning to the combination of the singing skills of bel canto and the modern elements of pop music,《Phantom of the Opera》shows both the elegance of classical music and the features of the modern one.Thus,the analysis and conclusion to its vocal features will be helpful to the improvement of musical comedy performance.Taking the arias in《Phantom of the Opera》as samples,the author of the thesis analyzes and concludes the characteristics of vocal performance by exemplification analysis in accordance with her major.In the first chapter of the thesis,the author explains some knowledge on musical comedy,such as its definition,characteristic,category and evolution. Besides,the writer also introduces the playwright of《Phantom of the Opera》and its scenario.The second chapter is focused on the analysis of its arias by following the music score to explore the merit of musical comedy performance.Consulting her own singing experiences and on the basis of the study mentioned in chapter two,the author concludes some approaches to musical comedy performance in the aspect of the vocality in chapter three. Finally,the writer mentions the expectation to musical comedy and proposes the necessity and feasibility of its learning in her last chapter.This thesis is designed to provide certain musical theories to help the vocalists master the features of musical comedy performance.She hopes that it will be useful to the practitioners and fans of music on their musical comedy performance.
