Mulam Verb Study

Mulao language is studied specially on the base of the formal researches in this thesis, focusing on the nature and characters of this, sub-category, and some relative phrases and sentence structures of this language. The approaching way is to describe and analyze it thoroughly first, and then induce the characters in order to illustrate some linguistic phenomenon. Thus, some points will be intertwined indispensably in the synchronic and diachronic level.The thesis contains six chapters. The characters of the word-Formation and grammatical functions are analyzed in the first chapter, from which the characters and nature of the verbs of this language are concluded. Basing on this, the verbs of Mulao language are initially divided into six kinds on the aspect of meaning. In the second chapter, the sub-category of Mulao language's verb is discussed in the light of the function of this language. For example, transitive and intransitive can be defined by whether the verb can be followed by an object or not. The focus of the third chapter is the Verb-Object construction, emphasizing the collocations. The fourth chapter is mainly about the Verb-Complementary construction. The different kinds of this construction described and analyzed from different views, the models of syntax and semantic are induced. Finally, an attempt is made on the usages and origins of the model NP1+VP1+NP2+VP2. The fifth chapter is a summary of the above chapters, which is conclude with some characters of Mulao language appearing in the Typology.Compared with other studies of similar kind, the present study stands out in several ways. The first lies in the variety, reliability and authenticity of the collected data. Apart from the words, a weath of grammatical example sentences and texts are documented. Besides, every effort has been made to ensure that data collected are reliable and authentic.And this thesis gives an systematical discussion on the syntax of Mulao,which differs from most previous studies of Mulao language.
