Frederic Jameson is the representative of Western Marxism at contemporary American. He explores a new stage of Marxism literary theory, Marxism as the basic starting point, expounding his views of literature and criticism by combining with the development of post-modern theory. This paper analyses Jameson's literary criticism from allegories, and investigates the concept, characteristics, theoretical origin, value and inadequacies of literary allegorical concept in practice.This paper is divided into five parts:Introduction: Simple introduction of Frederic Jameson's life and works. It includes the introduction of theoretical situation of Jameson's allegories and also points out the value and significance of the study.Part I: Connotation of allegories. The characteristics of literature are allegorical and national allegories. And the former contains the allegorical text and explanation. In fact, allegorical text is a historical text, broadly outlining the development and characteristics of allegories. And the paper explains the reason of putting allegories as historical existence according to characteristics. Allegorical interpretation need to rediscover the main body in the language. First of all, it constructs the allegorical structure, then is the allegorical explanations to show political unconscious from political, social and historical aspects. In national allegories, this paper analyses the background, reasons and characteristics.Part II: Characteristics of literary allegories. Jameson's allegories theory has four characteristics: text and allegorical combination, dialectic reconcilement, intermediaries and transcendence. They are allegorical theory's essence, prominence, practice and inherent characteristics and also are given a specific analysis in the text of four points.Part III: The theoretical reasons of literary allegorical concept's appearance. Transforming the structuralism, post-structuralism theory by Jameson provides a theoretical basis for literary allegorical concept. As a social symbolic connotation, the text is excavated from new reorganization on the language and historical relationship, coming from Lacan's"Three Kingdoms"and Althusser's multiform historics. The method and basis for interpretation come from creation of overall sexual identity and differences existing dialectical theory, coming from Lukacs'overall alteration from Althusser and Adorno negative dialectic.Part IV: Practice of literary allegorical concept. According to the theory showed in the first part, Jameson explains the specific nature of the operation of allegories by Conrad's novel "Lord Jim", it Strips the text symbols'containment strategy from the style and structure. The ocean's manner of impression and aesthetic policy and opposite frame of activity and merit explain ideology from the positive and negative aspects, and open the history which was suppressed in the end.Part V: Appraisal of the literary allegorical concept. It includes positive and negative aspects. The positive aspects are explained from era need, creating explanation methods and meanings of the third world. The negative aspects are explained from complicated theory, prevalent allegories and limitation of national allegories.Conclusion: Overall status, theoretical value and significance of literary allegorical concept. We should think it on dialectic and developing eyes.
