Wife Image Of The Study, The Japanese Proverb

Various languages are formed in the different social contexts,so, we can say that Japanese is a mirror reflecting Japanese culture. And Cultural Linguistics is to explore the history and culture of different countries through the inter-relationships between language and society. In these cultures, proverbs created and handed down by the masses are social experience through the accumulation of people's experience. The expression of proverbs is concise and fluent. Through proverbs, we can not only probe into some of Japanese life outlook and life style but also understand Japanese history and culture.The object of this study is the proverbs that reflect wives'lifestyle. These proverbs are extracted from Stories, Idioms and Proverbs Dictionary published by Syogakukan Press in 1982 and printed secondly. The thesis adopts classification, summarization and analysis methods to investigate wives'image. At the same time, this thesis also intends to explore the family relationships, concepts and moralities of Japanese traditional society, which are all condensed in wives'image.The study can deepen Japanese culture studies from the aspect of oral culture and reflect the real situation of sexual difference conceptions in the traditional families. Moreover, this study can make Japanese learners understand Japanese proverbs better.This thesis consists of five chapters. Chapter one introduces the previous research on this study and the author's stance. Chapter Two is concerned with the relationships between language, proverbs and culture. Chapter Three makes an investigation to wives'image in the proverbs from three aspects. Chapter Four analyzes the reasons why sexual difference conceptions are formed in Japanese history. The last Chapter concludes the investigation and proposes the subject of future.
