In the early 20th century,because of the unique historical background, there were variety of religions in Harbin, an international city in the Northeast of China. Among these diverse religions in Harbin, Orthodox and Judaism were famous for their distinctive characteristics and had the greatest influence to the local people, so they were paid more attention in Chinese academic circles. Based on the conceptual framework of charity, this paper gives a detailed analysis of functional fields and history of the two religious charity sectors in Harbin. By comparing the charity activities of the two religions, we can further explore the relationship between doctrine and daily life in the two religions, as well as the importance of charity education, which are both worthy to learn and use for reference to our country. This paper has a simple structure: Firstly, introducing religious and social environment of Harbin in the early 20th century, so that we can understand the significance and difficulties of charitable activities in such troubled times; Secondly, the charitable activities of Orthodox and Judaism in Harbin are described and analyzed respectively in the next two chapters; Finally, by comparing charitable activities of the two religions in Harbin, the influence of charity to our city has been seen, as well as its revelation to the developing Charities in China.
