Family ethnic series which talk about the ordinary people's daily lives and stories are receiving more and more concerns and affections. The thesis, from the narrow angle of the family ethnic series, chooses several series which are expressing affections and contradictions among family members, such as, The Happy Life of Garrulous Zhang Damien, Elder Brother, Empty Mirror, Tree of Affection, Those Passionate Times, Grandma, Waiting for Happiness, Have Parents at Home, Mother's Repentance, Golden Marriage etc. as the study object. Those series based on family affairs are suitable for all family members to watch together. And it wins supports and affections from the majority of audience for its reality and popularity.The thesis consists of five parts:The first part is Chapter one of the body of the thesis. It mainly deals with the definition of Chinese family ethnic series and makes an introduction of the origin and course of development of Chinese family ethnic series. Chinese ethnic series is a succession which comes from narrative tradition of theater-style of Chinese ethnic melodrama film. It takes the family life and family relation as its center and it fully expresses the importance in reconstructing the harmony between family and society in a modern history context. The real Chinese ethnic series begins with Desire at the beginning of 1990s. After decades'exploration and development, new ethnic family series are becoming more and more popular on television and receive warmly social responses.The second part is Chatter two. In this chapter, it makes a text analysis on Chinese ethnic series from two aspects: narrative features and image style. And it takes Have Parents at Home as an example to illustrate the two aspects. The study of narrative features is from three angles: types of narrative theme, shaping character, constructing the plot; the introduction of image style is from three angles of the typical shooting style in Chinese ethnic series, that is, fixed shot, use of close and medium scene, relatively closed space. Case analysis of Have Parents at Home can fully demonstrate these fundamental artistic features.The third part is Chapter three. This chapter makes a cultural analysis on Chinese ethnic series. Firstly, traditionally cultural origin and traditional ethnic notion is reviving."Films and teleplays based on family ethnic mostly contain deep national culture. Especially Confucian culture has been prevailing for thousands of years. Such as positive and ceaseless self-improvement attitude towards life, patriotic spirit of being concerned about the fate of the nation, value orientation that put justice before benefit, life style of thrift, kindness, gentleness and modest, the traditional virtue of respecting the old and loving the young etc."Although the society is developing, people is changing, the thought of traditional culture is still influencing people's life. It can crashes with the modern civilization, and then they merge into each other. It also provides fertile and endless cultural soil for the development of Chinese ethnic series. Secondly, the nature of mass culture of family ethnic series mainly manifest in the following aspects: transmission of mass culture, esthetic affection of daily life of mass culture, civilities of mass culture. All these provide it with good existing soil and chance.The fourth part is Chapter four. It analyses the challenges of the development of Chinese family ethnic series and the direction of it. In the narrative strategy, family ethnic series generally lay emphasis on narration of family harmony, and intend to avoid complex contradictions of out-side world, suppress people's deeper reflection and richer choice; in conflict of dramaturgy, because of pursuit of strongly dramatic effect in Chinese ethnic series, the beneficial contradiction among family members can weaken the affinity between them; in the setup of figures, shape of Chinese character of television is single and is lack of self-personality. To seek the way of these problems, we focus on the following aspects: integration of our humanity, improvement of aesthetic quality, importance of human relations, highlighting emotional intensity, being close to live narration, to keep character alive.The fifth part is Conclusion. It briefly sums up analysis and sort-out of Chinese family ethnic series in the thesis. It also points out that although we have achieved a great accomplishment, we still need to recognize our own shortcomings and the situation of development. And we should do our best to create more excellent series. It also makes future prospects of Chinese family ethnic series.
