Treatment motivation predicts the outcome well. The clients whose motivation was not strong usually encountered the resistance and drop-out in treatment. Therefore,we must enhance their motivation first if we want to improve the efficacy.Motivational interviewing(MI) is a directive,client-centered approach for eliciting change by helping clients explore and resolve ambivalence(Miller & Rollnick,2002).The clients who suffered subclinical obsessions and compulsions are most typical, because the first-line therapy, Exposure/Ritual prevention(EX/RP),for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder did not work efficiently on them.As a result,it is a good choice to combine MI and EX/RP,and develop both of their strengths.Researches indicated that it was an effectual therapy mode. However, all of the existent researches happened in clinical population in western culture. The efficacy of the mode has not been proved in subclinical population in Chinese culture.Besides,no valid tool to assess the motivation has been introduced in China.Accordingly, the present study had two purposes, one of which was to introduce and revise the University of Rhode Island Change Assessment Scale(URICA) in Chinese culture. The other purpose was to explore the MI+EX/RP's effect in treating the clients who suffered subclinical obsessions and compulsions. The conclusions were as the following:1.After exploratory factor analysis, four factors and twenty-seven items were reserved in the revised URICA.Confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the data fitted the model well. The item discrimination of the scale was very good. Both of the internal consistent coefficient and the validity of URICA were acceptable.2.MI could enhance the treatment motivation dramatically. The subjects' motivation had been reinforced after accepting MI,and no subject droped out.The new treatment mode,MI+EX/RP,was effective in treating the subclinical obsessions and compulsions. The severity degree of the obsessive-compulsive symptoms had been decreased after intervention, and so was anxiety degree.
