From The Universal Grammar To The Language Module

Language nativism is get away from tough and get more power under the leadership of Chomsky and Fodor, Chomsky's universal grammar and fodor's Language of thought,module of mind provides a strong theoretical support for nativism,they inquiry the composition of language through separation and integration two methods, from the perspective of linguistics, Chomsky proofed the structure of innate syntax Based on the poverty of stimulus argument, and Universal Grammar described the form and composition of innate syntactic structure, surface and deep structure which belongs to Universal Grammar provides an explanation for the relationship between syntax and semantic;fodor,a fomous philosopher,who explain the intrinsic mechanism on the perspective of Psychology and Philosophy of Language which works for syntax and semantic combination,in Language of Thought Fodor proposed the Language of thought hypothesis which Published in 1975,he think the Language of thought is a media between natural language and brain, just like the binary language of computer, Language of thought is the representation information that human brain can only deal with, Compare Language of thought with natural language, Fodor summed up that productive, systematic and coherence are the common characteristics between Language of thought and natural language, However, how to achieve productive, systematic and coherent characteristics?because of this,the theory of modularity mind emerged, Transducer, input systems and central nervous system are three parts constitute module of mind,based on these,fodor think the combination of syntactic and semantic work in the mental representation, And proposed the theory of compositionality, according to fodor, the theory of compositionality explained the combination of syntactic and semantic in a way of rules or parameters.In the book of Module of Mind,Fodor think language,hearing, visual, tactile, taste and smell are all parallel systems, He believed that language input system and the auditory, visual, touch, taste and smell share the characteristics of modularity, However,be a Language mechanisms,how Language module works?Surface structure, deep structure, universal grammar, and compositionality provides us with the mode and operation in the Language module on the perspective of nativism. The concept of combination between semantic and syntactic from Chomsky changed four times: 1. semantics rule out syntax which are obtained from the syntax;2. foundation and transformation are two parts of syntax, deep structure come from foundation,deep structure transform to surface structure, semantics belongs to the deep structure;3. movement is the brige between deep structure and surface structure, and the information of surface structure was provided by the logic form and phonetic form;4.Chomsky proposed the Principle of Full Interpretation,which interpreted semantics, syntax, and phonetic in a particular way.although the concept of combination between semantic and syntactic from Chomsky changed always,he insisted the universal grammar is the basis of syntax, semantic and the combination between them.Chomsky think semantics come from deep semantic,and internal relations of in-mind concept,fodor think semantics is the relation between psychological concept and outside world,he disagree with Chomsky's viewpoint about sementic,because of mind representation semantics get from the interaction between psychological concept and outside world, Syntactic structures and semantics are important roles to make compositionality of mental representation function,without syntax or semantics mental representation can't opration well.Chomsky and Fodor expained the combination between syntax and semantic in two different way, Although they disagree with each other,their viewpoint intersupplement. This article holds that the syntactic properties of universal grammar,and the semantic properties of Language of thought make a supplement for language module. based on the Universal Grammar of Chomsky and Fodor's Language of thought, and the module of mind,try to explore the composition of Language module on the perspective of nativism.
