Number is an important intermediary variable for human to understand the world. Processing numbers at high level is an important indicating of the ability of human mind. Numerical processing refers to individual processing numerical stimulates, forming a mental representation of the corresponding number and processing them,such as the process of number comparison and mathematics . Number is a special written language system, you can use different ways to show digital information. One is in alphabetical order or the terms, and the other is that the Arabic numbers .A large of research data shows that the form of numbers that has great impact on the number processing, the numerical size of the digital information can be automatically processed. In this study, based on previous studies, taking the advantages of the Chinese culture, using the Chinese characters as the experimental materials, to verify notation forms that has an important impact on the number processing and at the same time whether the different forms of numbers can be automatically processed studied.In the present study,there are four experiments. Involved in the four experiments, there are three main independent variables.They are the notation form of numbers, distance and consistency. There are four notation forms,Arabic number pairs ,the Chinese characters number pairs, mixed number pairs. The distance have three conditions,far,near and equality.The consistency in accordance with the size of the shape and the size of the number is divided into the consistency conditions and inconsistent conditions.How to control these three variables is denpended on the specific experimental tasks. Experiment one makes use of numerical comparison tasks to verify whether Chinese form of the number will affect the number processing, whether there are typical effects of the number. The results showed that the numbers in Chinese words as a digital information carrier, which also can affect the number processing, but the reaction speed is slower than the Arabic numerals, and the number of Chinese words also appear typical effects which appears in Arabic numerals.the number of Chinese words on the same appear. For example, they both appear the distance effect and size effect. When processing Chinese number pairs, the reaction time is shorter under the far conditions than the close conditions and the reaction time is shorter when the same size and shape of the different number pairs than the inconsistent condition. Experiment two using the same and different tasks to verify whether the number pairs of different notation forms whether can affect numerical processing,whether the distance effect will appear in conditions of changing the tasks of the experiment.The results showed that the number pairs of four number notation forms also appeared the distance effect,which shows that the experiment tasks can't affect the semantic processing of the number.This leads to another question that the size of the different notation forms of the number whether can be automatically processed? There are a lot of evidence supporting the conclusion of automated processing of Arabic numerals.We are mainly concerned about whether different notation forms of the number whether can be automatically processed. Experiment three and four make use of the similar Stroop paradigm, with the task of size comparison of the shape and the task of the same or different of the shape shape to study the above questions.Processing information of one dimension and neglecting the information of another dimension, if the the information of the neglected dimension will be processed on the numerical size,which will be illustrated the existence of automatic numerical processing. The results showed that the distance effect and the size congruency effect both exist, indicating that there wasn't task requirements, the numerical size of the number will be automatically processed, and four forms of the number have emerged these effects, indicating that the stability of such features.In short, this study was based on previous studies, making use of Chinese characters as research material,to verify that whether different notation forms of the number whether will affect the number processing and different forms of the number which the numerical information whether will be automatically activated. The four experiments provides a supporting evidence. However, these issues which that automatic processing appears which part of the human's cognitive activities and the specific brain activities, etc. have yet to be further researched and studied.
