There are numbers of extensive research and analysis about American post-modernist writer Donald Barthelme's masterpiece "Snow White",Unfortunately,"Snow White" has a unique narrator which had not yet been put forward-Donald Barthelme used omniscient third-person narrative and first-person singular and the plural narrative cross-launched writing(lancer called collectively narrator).This narrator is commonly found in female writers' works,and Donald Barthelme's narrator fills the blank of collectively narrator in the males.It provides a useful reference for us to study a variety of narrative text.The paper attempts to study the narrator of "Snow White" in classical narrative and post-classical narratology,and bases on the text analysis of "Snow White",and the combination of post-modern narrative context,finds out the deep meaning behind narrative,which is Barthelme's post-modern characteristics,with a constantly updated view found out the beauty in art,and explore the possibility on the novel narrative style.The structure of paper is composed of three parts.Chapter 1,the preamble part established the possibility of analysis "snow white" from the perspective of narrator,then briefly reviewed the general situation of the research on Donald Barthelme at home and abroad and clarified related concepts which were easily mixed up with narrator,based on this the argument and structure framework of the paper was established.Chapter 2 is the main body of the paper.The narrative structure of"Snow White" is complex,as Donald Barthelme said,is clastic art,but as a novel which is limited by the inherent characteristics of the style,we can still compartmentalize the narrator supported by text in "Snow White".In this paper,two sections will be used to discuss,section 1 adopted classic narrative study methods, starting from the choosing narrator,the handling of the focalization relationship and the transition of the narrative perspective,etc.,reverting the narrative characteristic of narrative dimension from the microcosmic perspective;section 2 adopted the post-classic narratology,starting from the narrative context,renewedly expatiate the text of "Snow White".The post-classic narratology and the classic narratology are not completely opposite,however,they are commensal and reinforcing each other. The purpose of this kind of arrangement is providing necessary terms and concepts and analysis pattern for the post-classic narratology as the technical support from classic narratology,likewise the post-classic narratology energizes the classic narratology,such analysis method not only can break the simplex understanding about "Snow White",make the text obtaining vitality,and also can explorer the level of novel narrating context and society consciousnessChapter 3 discussed the rebel of traditional narrative in "Snow White".Donald Barthelme parodied the German Green fairy tale "Snow White",embeded the intertextuality and meta consciousness into text,created a novel world to reflect the possibility of questioning the real world for depiction.He affirmed the artificial and tentative narrative via narrator,consequently drew some deep-seated rules which controlled the narrative up to surface,including narrative rules,pre-text,the value system of intertextuality and interpretation system which controlled the narrative up to surface, exposured and made use it,drastically satirizing the traditional narrative mechanism.Through frequent replacement of narrator,suspension of narrator,stop the narrator,it successful challenge to the authority of narrator,or even the identity of the narrator and the narrative itself,constitute a certain degree of disintegration,however this does not mean completely abandon the narrative,on the contrary,a thorough irony of the traditional mechanism is a deeper experiment,which may be useful to explore a possibility of narrative.An introduction of Donald Barthelme's life and inditing situation was made in Appendix which is the last part of paper.
