On Erhu Artistic Charm

Erhu is one of the ethnic representative string instruments in China. As its specific shape, structure and human-like voice, it is prone to express inner gentle feelings which is its unique artistic charm. This paper focuses on the unique artistic charm of Erhu by illustrating the musical cultural background, tamber, playing technique and so on, by which can provide a theoretical basis for the playing, teaching and composing of Erhu.Music is not only a technique or an art, but also an expressing of culture. The playing of Erhu should be a combinition of techniques and arts, in which techniques are the methods not the aims. But the deep understanding of traditonal culture is the real basis of Erhu playing, together with the exquisite playing techniques.This paper aims to illustrate playing techniques and to contribute to the ethnic culture prosper and ethos inspiration, to have a better developments.
