Appropriation is one of the important creation formula in post-modern arts, which displace and deconstruct the version on the premise of unchanging the composition of a picture. Because of the relatively wide definition of appropriation, this thesis begins with the definition of appropriation and clarifies its specific functions by comparing its concept with"imitate""duplicate"and"plagiarize". And a large number of cases are quoted in this thesis to analyze the appliance of appropriation in the creation such as drawing, ready-made, pieces.Appropriation in post-modern photography is the main subject discussed in this thesis. In this thesis, the outline of appropriation in post-modern photography is drawn by inquire into and analyze the works of post-modern photographer Cindy Sherman and Yasumasa. Their works in varying degree shake the foundations of traditional arts and in all respects manifest their rebellious intention and subversive connotation.
