Tianjin, Guangdong Music Research

Born in an immigrant area with an extensive foundation of national folk music like Lingnan , "Cantonese Music" has absorbed some ingredients of other art forms and western music in many ways. After experiencing about 100 years of social development, it has evolved a style of its own and became a local musical form with distinctive features. From the first club, "Cantonese Music Association" which played "Cantonese Music" was established in Tianjin to now, it has lasted for 90 years. During this period, "Cantonese Music" has always been continued and developed. As a kind of adventitious local musical form, it can have such a strong vitality and be survived about 100 years in Tianjin , what are the underlying reasons ?Based on the fieldwork, this paper applies the method of Ethnomusicology to analyze and dissect the birth, development, prosperity of "Cantonese Music" from the visions of history, sociology and folklore. To discuss the present existent condition of traditional musical form, in the context of today's society, politic, culture and market economy. Then peep how the local musical form can be survived at the different area, so we can explore a new breakthrough for the sustainable development of "Cantonese Music" in Tianjin.
