Tian Han, born in Changsha, Hunan Province in 1898, is the cultural master in the May 4th New Culture Movement, who made significant contribution to China's modern and current drama and literature development in terms of play, traditional Chinese play, movie script, novel and poetry.Tian Han combined traditional Chinese play conceptions with western romantism and realism, thus he developed a unique idea of drama and creational style. There have been extensive studies on Tian Han's achivements in literature and drama, however the influence exterted by Chinese and Western culture onhis drama has not been systematically explored through the consistency of historical"time"and"constructional form". Hence, this paper tries to study Tian Han's creational idea of drama at different times to show how he energetically reformed the traditional drama under the combination of Chinese and Western cultures and integrated creation, reform into performance so as to fashion distinct esthetic characteristics and artistic style.
