Road Leading To A New Historical Novel

Scholars had more systematically expounded on the causes of the new historical novel. And these direct source of it, such as "roots novels", "vanguard novels", "new realistic novels"and "the new historicism", were sensitively captured by them. It was worth noting, however, critics seemed to just explore the new historical novel under the environment of contemporary literature and less on the whole of the twentieth century and Contemporary Literature in China.In other words, most of them had ignored the impacts from "the modern historical novel", "revolutionary historical novels", "scar literature", and "reflection literature". Many works of the modern historical novel not only represented the highest achievements of historical novels at the time, but also had a very strong guidance and reference meaning to the subsequent creation of new historical novel.It was especially true to Mr. Lu Xun whoes historical novels had been quite a new prototype of historical novels in terms of historical consciousness and the writing skills. At the same time some of his non-historical novels, such as "The Story of Ah Q", "storm", had conveyed the ethos of the new historical novels by his non-serious writing style of the official history and also by the strong civil consciousness in these works. Mr. Shi Zhecun described the inner world of a historical figure, and greatly exaggerated and released the instinctive desire of these historical figures and held that all the historical events were due to the endless desire of human being. This had inspired new historical novel writers to find enough theoretical motivation by using desire (power, violence, sex) in constructing history. The new historical novel writers, in dismantling history novels of revolution, also kept a certain degree of heritance from them, which mainly presented in the revolutionary legend, as well as the novels of revolution which was also named as "Another memory"by Mr. Hong Zi-cheng. The banditry features and folk awareness of penetration of the former as well as the latter's humanity and narrative perspectives, to some extent, affected the early and later writing of the new historical novel writers.
