Toni Morrison is an outstanding Afro-American authoress in 1970's. She is the winner of Nobel Prize for literature in 1993. Morrison, who has written more than ten fictions, is one of the banners in Afro-American Literature. In her fictions, Morrison presents the voice of women and carries forward the Afro-American Culture with her special writing techniques in unique perspective.Toni Morrison's fictions set in Black Community, and the hero or heroine of each fiction is ordinary person. Morrison displays the social relationship and life experience of Afro-American, reflects the historical destiny of black people, reveals their material and spiritual pursuit, tells us their inner desire and depression, discloses contradictions and conflicts between values of white people and faith of black people.The first part of this thesis mainly tells the development of Afro-American Literature, at the same time it tells Morrison's writing background. The second part is the comment on Morrison's works. The comment includes Morrison's writing techniques and writing styles. The third part mainly analyzes Morrison's writing theme and significance according to the development of Afro-American Literature. It highlights the maturity and profound ability of Afro-American Literature.Afro-American Literature has changed a lot from not being to being, now it becomes an important component of American literature, even world literature. It is the result of Afro-American's struggle. Morrison's works not only reflect the feature of Afro-American Literature, but also reveal the universal meaning about human rights, female, struggle. To some extent,we can say Toni Morrison stands for the mature sign of Afro-American Literature.
