Toni Morrison is one of the greatest writers in contemporary America. She wrote eight novels in total. Song of Solomon is her third novel, which laid the foundation for her reputation in the history of American literature and earned her three awards, the Academy of American Literature Award, the National Book Club Award and the Nobel Prize in 1993. Song of Solomon tells a story of the life experiences of the protagonist "Milkman" in Michigan and his treasure hunt and root-seeking in the southern part of America. It opened up a new era for the African-American literature in terms of its artistic value and the depth of its thought. This thesis is intended primarily to explore the cultural ideals of Toni Morrison, or solution to the problem of the black people's livelihood. There are different views on this issue, while Toni Morrison has her unique insights. This thesis is dedicated to the argument of the cultural ideals of Morrison from the perspective of slave narrative and by analyzing the application of the traditional slave narrative pattern in Song of Solomon.
