Investigation And Analysis Of The Semantic Variation Phenomenon

Based on the interpretation of typical idioms in Chinese Idioms Dictionary and Idiom Dictionary of Semantic Variation, at the same time with the part of Idiom of the Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese (2005 edition), I made a synchronic and diachronic study about idiom semantic variation. Using methods of statistics and investigation of the word frequency, I probed the types of Chinese idioms semantic variation, tried to explore different reason of semantic variation, and established the standardization of idiom's semanteme, tracking and predicting the phenomenon of semantic variationThe thesis is composed of seven parts.Summary:I generally state the status and the significance of the idiom semantic variation.The first part:The idiom and the scope of my research are defined.Having regard to the different acknowledge to the definition and scope of idioms from current academic circles, the paper will intend to solve the question"what is an idiom". Then, I focus on Chinese Idioms Dictionary and Idiom Dictionary of Semantic Variation, at the same time with the part of Idiom of the Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese (2005 edition) and determine scope of this study by comparing the idiom parts.The second part:Based on idioms semantic features, according to the original meaning changes or no-changes, the paper differs the idioms into the variation of idioms and no-variation of idioms.The third part:The paper will analyze and describe type of semantic variation from the rational and emotional two aspects.The fourth part:The paper will reveal the reason of idiom semantic variation from the external and internal factors of language.The fifth part:According to the the fact that idiom's semanteme is gradually changing, we will systematically track phenomena of idiom semantic variation and establish dynamic standardization view.Conclusion:A conclusion of the whole thesis is made in this part.
